Hello friends. It’s been so long since I last did a tag, and since Kate from The Backwards Bookshelf recently tagged me to do this tag, I thought why not. I’m not sure who started this tag so yeah. Anyways, without any further ado, here are the questions:
NOPE ENDING: A book ending that made you go nope, either in denial, rage, or simply because the ending was crappy
HEART OR MIST AND A GATHERING OF SHADOW ENDED ON CLIFFHANGERS. THEY ARE THE MOST TORTUROUS THINGS YOU COULD DO TO A READER. (I LOVE THEM BOTH, BUT REALLY, MUST YOU DO THIS TO MY POOR SOUL?) Oh and Unravel Me had the most cliffhanger-y cliffhanger ever, I remember needing to read the third book immediately because I HAD to know what happened next.
NOPE PROTAGONIST: A main character you dislike and drives you crazy
I’m saying Alice from The Hazel Wood because she was just so dislikable and it made me enjoy the story much less than I would have if she’d been nicer. Like I understand the need for her to be mean and all but I just outright didn’t like her
NOPE SERIES: A series that turned out to be a pile of nope, after you invested all of that time and energy on it, or a series you gave up on because it wasn’t worth it anymore
So I have several choices for this one, and they include: The Maze Runner series, Throne of Glass, Daughter of Smoke and Bone and the Lux series. Oops, but aside from The Maze Runner, I wasn’t able to finish any of these because I just lost interest in them. I’m also going to say the second half of Harry Potter, I didn’t like it and felt like it was a waste of time (oops, my apologies)
NOPE PAIRING: A “ship” you don’t support
The first ship that comes to mind is Alina and Mal from The Grisha trilogy. I ABSOLUTELY DO NO SHIP THEM TOGETHER. I also don’t ship Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley together, tbh I have no idea why, I just don’t like them together.
NOPE GENRE: A genre you’ll never read
I know for certain that I’ll probably never read any horror books or crime novels because I scare easily and will most likely have nightmares. So yep, definitely avoiding these genres.
NOPE BOOK FORMAT: Book formatting you hate and avoid buying until it comes out in a different edition
Um, I don’t really have an answer for this, because I’m not usually picky about my books. But I like my covers to either match or be pretty.
NOPE RECOMMENDATION: A book recommendation that is constantly pushed at you, that you simply refuse to read
I also don’t have an answer for this mostly because I’ll at least consider people’s recommendations and look it up. But I don’t really remember any that I am refusing to read. Also, if you have any book recommendations, do leave some in the comments below as I’d love to hear what books I should add to my TBR (not that I don’t need anymore haha)
NOPE CLICHE: A cliche or writing pet peeve that always makes you roll your eyes
One of my writing pet peeves is when females are not supporting each other and are competing against each other, which isn’t very realistic because we usually support each other. I also don’t like the special snowflake trope or love triangles (unless done REALLY REALLY done, such as The Infernal Devices)
NOPE LOVE INTEREST: A love interest that’s not worthy of being one
I’m gonna say Adam from The Raven Cycle. Look, I like the guy, but I also don’t like him as a love interest, so yeah. I still don’t know how I feel about his relationship with a character at the end of The Raven King.
NOPE BOOK: A book that shouldn’t have existed
I don’t think I have an answer for this prompt becauseee, it’s just mean to say that a book shouldn’t have existed, okay? I can’t be mean. Also, I normally read books with synopsises that appeal to me, so majority of the time, I enjoy what I read, unless the character or world building or plot is slow and boring.
NOPE DEATH: A character death that still haunts you
AHAHAHHA… this is painful to go back to… but City of Heavenly Fire had so many deaths that still makes me sad. Alsooo, a person’s death in Nevernight still haunts me, they did’t deserve that fate 😦
NOPE VILLAIN: A scary villain/antagonist you would hate to cross and would run in the other direction
Despite my love for Sebastian Morgenstern, I would NOT like to meet him any time soon, because he is very intent on ruling the world and will kill to do so hahah… Oh and all the monsters in the PJO series, they sound terrifying and I would not like to cross with any of them.
NOPE AUTHOR: An author you had a bad experience reading for and have decided to quit
I don’t think I have any for this prompt, mainly because I’m a believer that all books get a second chance. Though, in saying that, I’m hesitant to pick up and Sarah J. Maas or J.K. Rowling books, because it’s been a hit or miss for me, mostly misses though.
I tag you all to do this, if you’d like! (Can you tell I’m just being lazy? AHAHA)
Do you agree with any of my nopes? Tell me, what are some nope books for you?
