Hello hello. In the last year or so, I’ve been getting into more manga, and though I haven’t read many yet, I thought I’d share some of the ones that I’ve read and fallen in love with.

Manga has a tendency to pull at my heart strings more than traditional novels because you can see the characters emotions and I don’t know why, but I just feel more connected to the characters in manga more. Onto these lovely recs:

  • Orange by Ichigo Takano: This one will tear your heart out and have you sobbing by the end. It’s emotional and sad but it’s so sweet and cute. I originally picked this one up because Anisha (Sprinkle Pages) said that the main character reminded her of me, and when I read it, I related to her so much. It’s a story about trying to fix the past to prevent a close friend from committing suicide (so TW for suicide and death) and it’s just so good and deserves more love.

  • Fruits Basket by Natsuki Takaya: This series is adorable and fun (I’ve heard it gets darker but I’m only on vol.3 of 12 so yeah ahah). It’s about a cursed family who get turned into their zodiac animal if hugged by the opposite gender. It’s a really sweet and fun book and holds a lot of nostalgia for me. Definitely worth a read!

  • Cardcaptor Sakura by CLAMP: Okay this is one of my all time favourites, mostly because I watched the anime as a child and recently fell in love with the new series (Clear Card ARC) but I think it’s definitely worth reading (although there’s a teacher-student relationship in the original series and I don’t know how I feel about that tbh). It’s fun, sweet and the characters are all loveable -> I WILL FOREVER SHIP SAKURA AND SYAORAN AND TOMOYO IS THE BEST FRIEND EVER

  • Fairy Tail by Hiro Mashima: If you’re looking for a fantasy manga, Fairy Tail if amazing! I love the art, adore the characters and the world and I love the message of family in this. Honestly this series has made me cry so much, both in the manga and anime and I will forever love it. It’s about wizards and wizard guilds and going on a lot of adventures, as well as protecting each other. Honestly, it’s so beautiful and I’m missing this world already (to be fair, I have the last season of the anime left but I’m scared to watch it because it was pretty sad)

And that’s all I have for you today. I’m still new to manga and there are so many titles I want to try.

Let's talk

Are there any titles familiar to you on this list? Do you read manga, if so, what are some of your favourites? I really want to try Death Note since I’ve heard good things about that one. Thank you for reading ❤

  1. OMG THANK YOU FOR THE RECS I’ve been wanting to read some new manga but it’s been difficult finding one that I’m into and invested in. I’m going to try and pick up Fruit Basket. SOO glad you loved Orange – I just had a feeling it was your style of book!!!

  2. Oh gosh yes, Orange is so emotional! And I will always have a soft spot for Fruits Basket; I definitely watched the original anime first but the manga is still so good 🙂

I love reading manga and it’s always nice to hear of another fan; although I have to admit that with work these days I definitely haven’t been keeping up to date with anything. Looking at your list here you have quite a mixed bag- what sort of things are you looking for? I have a few favourite so I’d be happy to recommend some new titles depending on what vibe you are going for 🙂

    1. I’m honestly up to read anything since I’m still new to manga. I’d love to hear what your favourites are! But I do love a good fantasy one or ones with sweet romances/friendships/family relationships

Also, sorry for the late reply! I haven’t been getting notifications for comments for some reason

      1. ((wow, sorry for my own late reply too OTL))

Hmm, have you tried Akagami no Shirayuki (Snow White with the Red hair) yet? I’m still only partway through the series myself but it is a super cute fantasy romance, with a prince and a herbalist 🙂

For a high school romance I remember adoring Koukou Debut (High School debut), I think I was crying towards the end! ❤ In fact I feel like it's been 10 years since I last read it, so I need to give it another go~

Another one I have always loved in Shinshi Doumei Cross (The Gentlemen's Alliance Cross) by Arina Tanemura. It is a very typical shoujo manga but I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline.
