Goodreads synopsis:

Forced to hide his identity, Damen finds himself increasingly drawn to the dangerous, charismatic Laurent. But as the fledgling trust between the two men deepens, the truth of secrets from both their pasts is poised to deal them the crowning death blow…”

My review:

If you haven’t read Captive Prince, I recommend you do that before reading this review. May contain spoilers from book 1.

I enjoyed Princes Gambit more than Captive Prince. The beginning was hard to get into as I found it dull. But it definitely picked up after a couple of chapters and was much more interesting. The tension and action during the battles were entertaining and kept me captivated. Princes Gambit was also less rape-y than Captive Prince, something I do not condone. I think there was still flickering moments of it, but not as much.

The relationships developed by Damen and the Veres was nice, especially the relationship between Laurent and Damen. They were the cutest and when Laurent actually took on Damen’s advice, I just squealed in happiness. I also found the loyalty of some of the soldiers to Laurent was nice, even though it seemed many didn’t like him.

The ending actually made me laugh. I was not expecting it which took me by surprised but it was hilarious nonetheless. The writing is easy to get into after a while but I still feel that the plot wasn’t solid. Like the goal wasn’t clear, if you get what I mean.

Anyways, this is the end of this review. Thank you for reading.
